  • 8 Questions and 2 Imperatives for Sarah Nixey

    .

    Who are you?
I’m an independent television producer, based in Toronto. My new series, You Gotta Eat Here! premieres on the Food Network in January. I’m also Paul Nixey’s big sister and brand new mom to two month old Alice.

    Who is your role model?

HRH Queen Elizabeth II. Or an equal mix of Mary Poppins and Edina Monsoon.

    Describe your management style.
    Kermit the Frog.

What is your biggest professional accomplishment?
This new TV series has me mighty proud. I’ve been involved from its early development to its delivery. We spent four months last winter on the road filming – and eating – our way across the country. I worked with an incredible production team who challenged and supported one another, and made me excited to go to work in the morning.

    What was your first job?
Seventh grade. Delivering the Tri-City News to the good people of Port Moody, BC. Tip for future tiny and/or lazy kids: pick a route that doesn’t involve steep driveways.

What are you reading right now?
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt; my new Christmas gift, Anna Olsen’s Sugar, and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. (Shut up.)

Tell us one thing about yourself that might surprise people.
I record Jeopardy! every single evening and don’t start watching it until at least 15 minutes into the broadcast. The commercials disrupt my flow. Also, I think they could make the show 33% better by losing the contestant interviews and adding a ‘Triple Jeopardy’ round. There, I’ve said it.

What is the last conference you attended?
I was once hired as an actor to entertain attendees at an asphalt conference. The theme was ‘old Hollywood’ and I was an old timey photographer. I believe I was paid in cash and appetizers.

    Blackberry or iPhone?
    iPhone.

    What’s your Internet guilty pleasure?
And as much as I love the Internet, I really think broadcast television is the way of the future (what?). My TV guilty pleasure is Toddlers & Tiaras. Oh, who am I kidding? There’s no guilt involved, just pure, unadulterated, full-glitz pleasure.
